Building a show car – III
Hello and welcome to part 3 in the building a show car series. Today we will look at the exterior styling of the car. This part involves a lot of personal choice of which body kit to choose since there are literally thousands out there. The exterior styling of the car includes the body kit, paint, type of wing, type of hood and custom modifications.
Choosing a bodykit
This part is totally up to you, it’s how you envision your car to look. Try to not copy anyone else’s style and be yourself as long as you think it looks good and you are happy with it that’s all that matters.
The three types of look are aggressive, clean and racy. If you want an aggressive look then you should definitely check out the Veilside, wings west and Stillen body kits. And if it’s the clean look your after add on lips are good alternatives like the ones wings west and Greddy offer.
If you are going for the racy look some kits that look good are the buddy club copy kit, touring style kits that a lot of companies offer, and race ready aerodynamic kits. If these manufacturers don’t make body kits for your car, just choose one you like that matches the car’s overall theme for example if you have got exotic chrome alloy wheels you might want to get an aggressive body kit as they would complement each other.
Paint
The colour/paint of the car should match the car’s style/theme. If you car is wild and has an aggressive look then a wilder colour like chrome/mirror paint or flake paint can be used. If you have a racy looking car championship white or even a painted racing scheme would be good choices. Good paint jobs for clean looking car’s would be some of the more luxurious colours like candy paints, bronze, pear etc.
Custom modifications
This again is down to personal choice and can get you extra points at car shows. Try not to go overboard with it though like making the front of your car a Punto and the back a Clio for example. Invest in mods that will bring out your car, and don’t spend to much as the amount of points you can gain from this section is minimal, spend money on other parts of the car that need attention.
Choosing a wing
Choosing a wing for your car shouldn’t be very hard, depending on the style of your car again and go from there. If you have an aggressive looking car then a gigantic aluminium wing could work, but it would not be the best choice for a clean looking car. The wilder your car, the bigger and taller the wing should be. If you have a racy looking car an adjustable wing made from lightweight material like carbon fibre would be good.
